Winter Ballroom Wedding at Aria | Prospect, Connecticut Wedding Photographers

This winter wedding at Aria had the perfect amount of snow, giving it that little bit of extra magic. Stephenie's uncle designed and baked her cake, and her reaction was priceless upon seeing it for the first time. I truly love when our couples include friends and family in pieces of their day, and Kevin's coworker was their D.J. for the evening, too! As always, Aria looked gorgeous, decked out in beautiful lanterns and candlelight. We are so happy for these two, and cannot wait to design their wedding album!

Mystic Aquarium Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

This wedding at Mystic Aquarium has to be one of my all-time favorites, due to the sheer fun factor of the venue and this particular couple! I mean, for reallllll...a Beluga Whale who splashes the bridal party?! Pretty sure you're going to love their story as much as I do. Huge thanks to my second shooter for the day, Jesse from On Point Images.

How we Met: "We were in geography club together in college and found a common love of Doctor Who and travel. We very quickly bonded and have been best friends ever since!"

The Proposal: "It was a massive surprise! We were on a trip to Disney World and it turns out he was plotting this entire thing for months before hand without me knowing! We were at Magic Kingdom and he pulled us (myself and his two friends WHO WERE ALSO in on it) over to Cinderella's wishing well next to the castle. He gave me a coin and told me to turn around and make a wish. I closed my eyes and threw the coin over my shoulder into the well and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee! I was BEYOND shocked. I think I just stood there in shock for a few seconds before I said YES!"

Venue: "We choose Mystic Aquarium for the venue because we have a mutual love for the ocean and specifically conservation. Mystic is a conservation driven institution so naturally it was our first choice. We wanted to be able to share with everyone we love the amazing things Mystic Aquarium does!"

Details: "Our THEME if we had to choose was sustainability/ethics. We both have a lot of background in both and for us this being central to our wedding was of the greatest importance. My engagement ring is made of recycled metal and ethically sourced/ fair trade gemstones. Our wedding rings are made of recycled metal and resemble birch bark, a tribute to our favorite country, and where we someday hope to live, Iceland. Our flowers were exclusively things that were grown LOCALLY IN SEASON (not imported from other countries). Our outfits for the wedding were both handcrafted in Vermont by Tara Lynn (Tara Lynn Bridal) made of sustainable hemp, cotton, and silk fabrics. We also made the very deliberate choice of using TOMS shoes for ourselves (and my bridesmaids) because the shoes are ethically produced and for each pair purchased TOMS donates a pair to someone in need of shoes! Of course to explain my shoes (the bees), I have an undying love for bees, I would love to someday have my own hives. They are fantastic little producers and I do everything in my power to teach people what incredible insects they are!"

Backyard Tented Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

My first wedding in Ellington, CT!!!!! I was so excited to photograph Jessica & Eric's wedding because Ellington is my hometown. This was a beautiful backyard tented wedding at Jessica's parents' home, overlooking the town from the hill. Seriously - the view was a stunner. For those of you familiar with town, we were close to the Ellington Airport and could see much of "downtown".

Jessica's gown had delicate lace and beading, and her reception dress was perfect for both dancing and mingling. It had hints of blush pink, matching her bridal party perfectly. We photographed their outdoor wedding ceremony along benches overlooking the view, where they performed a sand ceremony that included Jessica's daughter. It was such a sweet moment and one of those emotion-filled portions of the day that we love capturing.

Between the bridal party portraits and the tented candlelit reception, there was no shortage of fun moments, but my favorite was probably The Cupcake Bug! Luann's Bakery in Ellington, CT provided the cake and desserts for the wedding, sending the cupcakes in a VW Bug during the reception.

Thank you for choosing us as your wedding photographers! We had fun with you two and your entire day was absolutely wonderful! XOXO, Kathy

Harrington Farm | Massachusetts Wedding Photographers

This beautiful couple is none other than my sister-in-law and my new brother-in-law! I couldn't be happier for them and was so excited for them, starting from the moment Brian proposed to Sarah in Maine! You may remember seeing their Ogunquit, Maine engagement session from last year... If not...go check it out now! We love photographing in new places and traveling to meet up with our couples.

Sarah & Brian's wedding day was a little bit on the rainy side, but we had the perfect amount of cloudy mist for their first look and portraits outdoors before the ceremony! Sarah's pastor officiated their wedding ceremony, with a braided rope tie (brides, take note - what a great idea!), unity candle lighting, readings by her brothers (including MY HUBS), a beautiful solo of "Wherever You Go" (David Haas) by Sarah's mom, and communion taken by the bride and groom. The reception was filled with personal details with a baseball theme, since they met playing softball! Soooo many fun ideas here, like a concession stand for their wedding favors, and tickets as escort cards! See that cake topper??? Custom-made by the bride's talented father, who hand-carved the topper himself! What is better than personalized details that really tell your story as a couple on the day of your wedding?!

I love weddings with a mix of DIY and stylist/planner ideas incorporated in, because everything comes together so nicely and there is less stress for the bride and groom on the actual wedding day. You'll hear from the stylist below, on how the planning process went and how she works with couples!

Shannon Downey, Owner of More Than a Moment:

When I was asked to help create details that had an underlying baseball theme for Sarah & Brian’s wedding day I was beyond excited. I am a baseball girl at heart and grew up playing softball and cheering on the Red Sox. One of my favorite things to do as an event stylist is to help personalize each couple’s day in a way that is unique to their individual personalities.

Sarah and Brian love the Red Sox and she wanted to incorporate this into their theme without it being too overbearing. Sarah and her mom wanted to partake in the DIY aspect of their wedding while also being able to delegate certain tasks to myself. I helped guide them in the painting process of their distressed mason jars as well as the overall color scheme for the day. Sarah knew she wanted to do a concession stand as a focal point for the favor aspect of the wedding day. I assisted in giving input towards the layout of this table but Sarah and her mom did most of the ordering and display mock-ups for me to implement on the day of.

Other ways we incorporated the baseball theme was through the seating chart and the overall vibe of the signage throughout the venue. I always work with my couples to choose a font and colors that fit their theme and then we use these multiple times during the design process. For Sarah and Brian it meant using their pink and blue colors with a touch of the ivory and red accents.

One of my favorite things to create for their wedding was the seating chart display. Instead of your standard tented escort cards they opted for my suggestion of “tickets” that would show which table the guest was seated at. The tables were named after famous Red Sox players to coincide with the theme. I was able to utilize the budget they gave me to purchase some additional décor that fit the baseball vibe such as a few Louisville Slugger bats, some extra baseballs and some good ol’ fashioned peanuts.

My favorite part is pulling everything together the day of that we have worked so hard on. From the seating chart to the welcome table to the cupcake display the details were executed in a style that said “Sarah and Brian” while still exuding some wedding elegance.  Everything had a touch of Sarah’s hard work as well as my professional eye for execution and layout.

The most gratifying part of what I do is seeing my couples at the end of the night, once the celebration has come to a close, and they are able to reflect on everything coming together in just the way they had imagined during the planning process!

CONNECTICUT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS | WEDDING AT THE BOND BALLROOM

Anne Marie and Andre had their wedding at The Bond Ballroom.  I love old historic buildings like that and luckily, Hartford has some amazing ones!  We started off with getting ready at their respective spots and then ventured to St. Bernard's Church in Vernon.  It's always a bit surreal when I go to that church because I went to school there (many many years ago).  I have so many memories of that place, and it always makes me a bit nostalgic.

After the ceremony, we went to Hartford for their formals.  As I mentioned, Hartford is full of amazing spots for photos and Anne Marie and Andre picked the State Capital and City Hall.  Two of my favorites!

Once we arrived at The Bond, the beautiful room was filled with amazing details of spring and summer colors.  The huge windows bring in a ton of light and for moments, you forget that you are on the 11th floor in a city.

We had such a great time photographing their day and even had a moment to catch up with a past bride! We love seeing our couples again.  Not only did Anne Marie and Andre fill their reception with amazing friends and family, they had the best vendors their as well!  It's always great to work with people that you consider friends!

Thank you Anne Marie and Andre for choosing us to photograph your day, we hope you enjoy this small glimpse!

Connecticut Wedding Photographers | Wedding at The Publick House

Julie and Jerry's wedding this past Friday at The Publick House was filled with love, laughter, and a crazy downpour during the bridal party formals. If you haven't been to The Publick House lately, I suggest making a trip up to Sturbridge, MA this summer and checking out their pastry shoppe and restaurant. It is a beautiful and quaint historic inn with a ton of charm, making the perfect backdrop for beautiful wedding photos.

The bride got ready in the Chamberlain House, where we were greeted by a vaulted ceiling complete with full chandelier. Her traveling makeup artist, Katie from KiSSandMaKeUp in Connecticut drove to Sturbridge, as well. Julie's first look with her dad was beyond sweet, and I was waiting for tears to fall during her and Jerry's first touch just outside of the barn.

First touch is for those couples who have extra time built into their timeline for a quick moment together before the ceremony, but who do not want to actually see each other beforehand. These two held hands around one of the barn doors, where they got to share their nervousness and excitement before walking down the aisle.

After saying their, "I Do's" and beginning group photos there was a little sprinkle of rain. Not a moment later it was a FULL DOWNPOUR, sending everyone running back to the tent. We captured a few portraits of Julie and Jerry around the venue before heading in to their tented reception.

I could not be happier for these two, and send my best wishes for a long and happy marriage together! May you always be surrounded by loving friends/family and remember to smile through the rain.
