Kelly & David | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

Congratulations to Kelly & David on their gorgeous Hartford, CT wedding. Since they work and live in Hartford, they really wanted to keep their gorgeous day there as well. It was a perfect winter wedding. Actually a bit warmer after a few days of extreme cold and there was still snow on the ground for their first look. It couldn’t have gotten any better. They saw each other at The State Capitol Building with quite a few on-lookers since Kelly works in the building then we headed over to City Hall and finally to their ceremony and reception at The Society Room of Hartford.

Kelly & David, you had the perfect day and Kelly & David enjoyed photographing you two! Yes, you read that right, Kelly & David photographed Kelly & David’s wedding. Special thank you to David Apuzzo for second shooting with me!

A special thanks to all of the vendors:

Gorgeous DIY Wedding at The Branford House | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

We first met Kelsey and her mom at the Mohegan Sun Bridal Expo last winter (we’ll be back again this February, so stop by and say hi at our booth!!!!) and couldn’t wait for her and Alan to get married! Their two little girls made this day even more special, by being the cutest flower girls, and by truly making the day seem like a merging of families. Kelsey has some serious DIY wedding talent, in addition to running her own business (check out @totesaddicted on Insta!!!) - she created the centerpieces, bouquets, even did her own makeup and everything was absolutely stunning. I’m pretty much ready to have her come to my house and redesign everything so it’s light & airy and beautiful.

I have to say, though…my favorite part of this wedding was photographing the genuine moments like when Kelsey’s dad pulled out a photo of her as a child on his shoulder and they both shed a few tears. Moments like seeing her dance with her mom on the dance floor, or when Alan’s mom was convinced to come out on the dance floor even though she had a temporary air cast for her ankle. This wedding was truly beautiful not only in the details and planning, but in the authentic emotion shown by Kelsey and Alan with their family and friends.

I CANNOT WAIT to see their wedding album, which will no doubt be shown to their children for years to come.

XOXO, Kelsey & Alan - thank you for choosing Simply K Studios to photograph your wedding day

Elegant Christmas Wedding at The Fox Hill Inn | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

From the bride: “Nick and I got engaged on December 20, 2016. It was such a beautiful and magical time but even more so because we both love Christmas. We wanted to enjoy our engagement and didn’t want to rush into wedding planning therefore it wasn’t until April of 2017 that we began the process. We decided that we wanted a Christmas wedding but knew that a December 2017 wedding would be too quick turn around and we needed more time to plan the wedding of our dreams. We decided on December 1st, 2018. And even though it was a year and a half away from when we booked our venue, it went by FAST. Before we knew it, the big day was here. It was a beautiful, crisp day. The sun was shining and our venue (a classic, renovated mansion style Inn)was decked out in garland, white lights, Christmas trees and red and gold colors. It was exactly what we visioned. The night was wonderful. A snow machine produced fake snow during our first dance. Our band played all the favorites and some Christmas tunes too. Our cigar bar added a cozy vibe. Our magic mirror photo booth was fun and interactive. The food was amazing. It was a night to remember. A special thank you to our wonderful photographers, Kathy and Kelly of Simply K Studios, for capturing it all.”

Fall Engagement Session | Connecticut Engagement Session

Paige and Billy suggested this spot to me when we were planning their engagement session and I couldn’t have been happier with it! The waterfall backdrop was beautiful and this year’s late foliage was perfectly timed for their session.

Old Wethersfield Fall Engagement Session | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

As most of you know, we have a soft spot in our hearts for Old Wethersfield. I was married at The Webb Barn and our studio was located just down Main Street for years. We’ve spent many afternoons window shopping and grabbing lunch at Cove Deli, and The Webb Barn is one of our favorite rustic wedding venues to photograph! So of course I was excited when Amanda told me that John proposed to her down at the Cove and that they wanted to have their engagement session there! There’s nothing like fall in New England, and Old Wethersfield is small town perfection. We’re excited to be photographing Amanda & John’s wedding at The Lace Factory in 2019 - congratulations, you two!

I cannot even put into words how much fun we've been having with our engagement sessions lately. Here are some highlights from this lighthearted and fun engagement session.

Eolia Mansion Engagement Session | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

When I first met Melissa & Jeff at the studio, I learned that they know my high school BFF and I couldn't be more excited to photograph their wedding at Saltwater Farm Vineyard. These two were so laid back and natural during their engagement session and it shows in the variety of photographs throughout their session at Harkness Memorial State Park. Mystic Aquarium Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

This wedding at Mystic Aquarium has to be one of my all-time favorites, due to the sheer fun factor of the venue and this particular couple! I mean, for reallllll...a Beluga Whale who splashes the bridal party?! Pretty sure you're going to love their story as much as I do. Huge thanks to my second shooter for the day, Jesse from On Point Images.

How we Met: "We were in geography club together in college and found a common love of Doctor Who and travel. We very quickly bonded and have been best friends ever since!"

The Proposal: "It was a massive surprise! We were on a trip to Disney World and it turns out he was plotting this entire thing for months before hand without me knowing! We were at Magic Kingdom and he pulled us (myself and his two friends WHO WERE ALSO in on it) over to Cinderella's wishing well next to the castle. He gave me a coin and told me to turn around and make a wish. I closed my eyes and threw the coin over my shoulder into the well and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee! I was BEYOND shocked. I think I just stood there in shock for a few seconds before I said YES!"

Venue: "We choose Mystic Aquarium for the venue because we have a mutual love for the ocean and specifically conservation. Mystic is a conservation driven institution so naturally it was our first choice. We wanted to be able to share with everyone we love the amazing things Mystic Aquarium does!"

Details: "Our THEME if we had to choose was sustainability/ethics. We both have a lot of background in both and for us this being central to our wedding was of the greatest importance. My engagement ring is made of recycled metal and ethically sourced/ fair trade gemstones. Our wedding rings are made of recycled metal and resemble birch bark, a tribute to our favorite country, and where we someday hope to live, Iceland. Our flowers were exclusively things that were grown LOCALLY IN SEASON (not imported from other countries). Our outfits for the wedding were both handcrafted in Vermont by Tara Lynn (Tara Lynn Bridal) made of sustainable hemp, cotton, and silk fabrics. We also made the very deliberate choice of using TOMS shoes for ourselves (and my bridesmaids) because the shoes are ethically produced and for each pair purchased TOMS donates a pair to someone in need of shoes! Of course to explain my shoes (the bees), I have an undying love for bees, I would love to someday have my own hives. They are fantastic little producers and I do everything in my power to teach people what incredible insects they are!"
