We first met Kelsey and her mom at the Mohegan Sun Bridal Expo last winter (we’ll be back again this February, so stop by and say hi at our booth!!!!) and couldn’t wait for her and Alan to get married! Their two little girls made this day even more special, by being the cutest flower girls, and by truly making the day seem like a merging of families. Kelsey has some serious DIY wedding talent, in addition to running her own business (check out @totesaddicted on Insta!!!) - she created the centerpieces, bouquets, even did her own makeup and everything was absolutely stunning. I’m pretty much ready to have her come to my house and redesign everything so it’s light & airy and beautiful.
I have to say, though…my favorite part of this wedding was photographing the genuine moments like when Kelsey’s dad pulled out a photo of her as a child on his shoulder and they both shed a few tears. Moments like seeing her dance with her mom on the dance floor, or when Alan’s mom was convinced to come out on the dance floor even though she had a temporary air cast for her ankle. This wedding was truly beautiful not only in the details and planning, but in the authentic emotion shown by Kelsey and Alan with their family and friends.
I CANNOT WAIT to see their wedding album, which will no doubt be shown to their children for years to come.
XOXO, Kelsey & Alan - thank you for choosing Simply K Studios to photograph your wedding day

Elegant Christmas Wedding at The Fox Hill Inn
From the bride: “Nick and I got engaged on December 20, 2016. It was such a beautiful and magical time but even more so because we both love Christmas. We wanted to enjoy our engagement and didn’t want to rush into wedding planning therefore it wasn’t until April of 2017 that we began the process. We decided that we wanted a Christmas wedding but knew that a December 2017 wedding would be too quick turn around and we needed more time to plan the wedding of our dreams. We decided on December 1st, 2018. And even though it was a year and a half away from when we booked our venue, it went by FAST. Before we knew it, the big day was here. It was a beautiful, crisp day. The sun was shining and our venue (a classic, renovated mansion style Inn)was decked out in garland, white lights, Christmas trees and red and gold colors. It was exactly what we visioned. The night was wonderful. A snow machine produced fake snow during our first dance. Our band played all the favorites and some Christmas tunes too. Our cigar bar added a cozy vibe. Our magic mirror photo booth was fun and interactive. The food was amazing. It was a night to remember. A special thank you to our wonderful photographers, Kathy and Kelly of Simply K Studios, for capturing it all.”

From the bride: I met Jeff when I was 15. We were high school sweethearts who dated on and off through college (you know how that goes!) After that we went our separate ways for years and funny enough, I do believe fate brought us back together. We kept randomly running into each other at different places and we’ve been back together ever since!
He proposed to me the day after Labor Day in September last year at our first home together. We were away that whole weekend in NH and RI and he had the ring on him but couldn’t find the right time. He said he just couldn’t wait any longer! I’ll never forget that moment - it was in the middle of a crazy thunderstorm. I walked up the stairs after my hair appt to see champagne, flowers, the ring on our table. I was so shocked because I never thought he would do it at home!
He called both our parents prior and they all came over and we celebrated together 🥂 Don’t ask me what he said during the proposal - I think I blacked out!! Haha!
Simply K Studios: Photographing Melissa & Jeff’s wedding was like watching two of your best friends get married. They were so happy and we love capturing all of the pure emotion of happy tears and laughter on a wedding day. Thank you for trusting us with your wedding vision, Melissa & Jeff! Congratulations and best wishes for a long & happy marriage together. XOXO

Luke and I met the summer before our junior year of college at the Connecticut Fire Academy where we became certified interior firefighters after many years with our local town departments. After many ice cream dates and wake boarding trips we decided to make long distance work through college, then moved across the country to Arizona together to start our careers.
Now in Virginia, we admittedly enjoy our time together the most when we’re hiking, hunting, and playing with our Labrador, Sophie. Luke proposed at my family's home in Weekapaug, RI with my family and our dog present to celebrate our excitement together. I love that Luke can make me laugh no matter my mood and our similar devotion to our families and the outdoors.
When we were planning our wedding back in Connecticut, we wanted to make our special day feel like it involved all of the things we hold closest to our hearts, namely home. Our venue, caterer, florist and of course photographer were all friends or family that we felt tied to as we became immersed in planning this special event.

Laura & Brian’s destination wedding at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa was A-MAZing. When we photograph destination weddings, we’re able to meet our couples up in the U.S. beforehand. Laura & I sat at the studio together so she could tell me all about their wedding plans while I asked questions about travel, timeline, and style for the day. Mary Beth Morrissey accompanied me for the trip to Cancun as a second shooter for this wedding, and we had so much fun getting to know Laura & Brian’s friends and family throughout the week we spent in Mexico.
Destination weddings are always both so unique and laid-back, with friends & family coming from all over the world. Each destination wedding photography package is designed to cover what the couple needs for the wedding day, as well as time for photography scouting and meeting with the event coordinator beforehand if there are questions. We absolutely love destination weddings.
Have we mentioned how excited we are for spring?! This super-sweet outdoor engagement session was hiking mixed with playful fun and I'm so excited to be their wedding photographer! Kayla and Chris's wedding is just around the corner, at one of our favorite venues - The Lace Factory, and we can't wait to see which photographs they choose for their custom guest book!
Joe and Jackie met online. Joe asked Jackie out to happy hour at a little restaurant called Salute in downtown Hartford. Happy hour turned into closing down the bars on a Wednesday night, to then finding out that Jackie's car was locked in a parking garage at 2 AM. Joe, being the gentleman that he is, offered to give Jackie a ride home in the opposite direction of where he lived. The next morning, Joe picked Jackie up before work to bring her downtown to get her car. They immediately starting planning their second date, and from there were inseparable. Love at first sight was not something either of them believed in until they met each other. Jackie and Joe both knew they were meant for each other from the very start. Jackie even texted her best friend (and Maid of Honor) the very next day saying "I really think I'm going to end up marrying this guy."
Fast forward to the proposal, Joe and I had a trip planned to Maine last summer to visit his family for the week of July 4th. On our second day there Joe and I walked out to the end of the dock at his parent's lake house and he proposed. I was in so much shock, and when I turned around everyone was standing there watching us and he even flew my parents up there to witness the whole thing. It ended up being much more than just the 4th of July trip I was expecting.
This winter wedding at Aria had the perfect amount of snow, giving it that little bit of extra magic. Stephenie's uncle designed and baked her cake, and her reaction was priceless upon seeing it for the first time. I truly love when our couples include friends and family in pieces of their day, and Kevin's coworker was their D.J. for the evening, too! As always, Aria looked gorgeous, decked out in beautiful lanterns and candlelight. We are so happy for these two, and cannot wait to design their wedding album!
This wedding at Mystic Aquarium has to be one of my all-time favorites, due to the sheer fun factor of the venue and this particular couple! I mean, for reallllll...a Beluga Whale who splashes the bridal party?! Pretty sure you're going to love their story as much as I do. Huge thanks to my second shooter for the day, Jesse from On Point Images.
How we Met: "We were in geography club together in college and found a common love of Doctor Who and travel. We very quickly bonded and have been best friends ever since!"
The Proposal: "It was a massive surprise! We were on a trip to Disney World and it turns out he was plotting this entire thing for months before hand without me knowing! We were at Magic Kingdom and he pulled us (myself and his two friends WHO WERE ALSO in on it) over to Cinderella's wishing well next to the castle. He gave me a coin and told me to turn around and make a wish. I closed my eyes and threw the coin over my shoulder into the well and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee! I was BEYOND shocked. I think I just stood there in shock for a few seconds before I said YES!"
Venue: "We choose Mystic Aquarium for the venue because we have a mutual love for the ocean and specifically conservation. Mystic is a conservation driven institution so naturally it was our first choice. We wanted to be able to share with everyone we love the amazing things Mystic Aquarium does!"
Details: "Our THEME if we had to choose was sustainability/ethics. We both have a lot of background in both and for us this being central to our wedding was of the greatest importance. My engagement ring is made of recycled metal and ethically sourced/ fair trade gemstones. Our wedding rings are made of recycled metal and resemble birch bark, a tribute to our favorite country, and where we someday hope to live, Iceland. Our flowers were exclusively things that were grown LOCALLY IN SEASON (not imported from other countries). Our outfits for the wedding were both handcrafted in Vermont by Tara Lynn (Tara Lynn Bridal) made of sustainable hemp, cotton, and silk fabrics. We also made the very deliberate choice of using TOMS shoes for ourselves (and my bridesmaids) because the shoes are ethically produced and for each pair purchased TOMS donates a pair to someone in need of shoes! Of course to explain my shoes (the bees), I have an undying love for bees, I would love to someday have my own hives. They are fantastic little producers and I do everything in my power to teach people what incredible insects they are!"

Emily & Patrick's engagement session on the CT shoreline ended up falling on one of the nicest weekends of the month, and we chased some gorgeous light around the park. In the most random coincidence EVER, we found out that our families spend part of summer vacation at the same set of cottages on Sebago Lake in Maine!! I was crazy-excited when we discovered this, because no one has ever heard of where we stay, so it was a HUGE coincidence. Here's a little more of their story...
"Patrick and I met about a year and a half ago and knowing both our love for wine, our first date consisted of just that: a wine tasting. And naturally, we hit it off. With me being fairly new to the area after relocating from North Dakota for a job in western Massachusetts, and with my line of work being hockey at the time, there was some hesitation on whether I'd be on the east coast for long or whether my job would take me elsewhere. Patrick is a teacher and football coach in Springfield and is originally from Connecticut, so he was pretty set. Our affection continued to grow and we knew that even if we both had to move, we'd make it work.
Fast forward through countless wine dates, trips to North Dakota to meet family, east coast adventures and vacations, we found ourselves in Newport in November to celebrate the end of Patrick's football season. We were in the midst of touring the mansions when he took me aside on the back lawn of the Breakers mansion overlooking the ocean, when he got down on one knee, with a stunning ring, and asked me to spend forever with him. He was emotional, I was emotional, it was a total surprise, and it was perfect!
Fall is our favorite time of the year, so we're jumping into planning our midwest October 2018 wedding! Our engagement photo session was absolutely perfect and set the tone perfectly for our rustic barn wedding!"
This engagement session was soooooo much fun and I couldn't wait to share my favorites (there are A LOT). We met at Sabia Tree Farm, where Kelly had previously photographed Sam & Mike's wedding (the owners). It was the absolute perfect spot for a Christmas-themed session and I'm so happy to be photographing Nikki & Nick's wedding next December. Here is a little bit of their story...
"Nick and I grew up in the same hometown. Stratford is a fairly big town but when you divide it up into school systems, it’s really not that big. We went to the same elementary school, middle school and high school. We even had a class together. Journalism. Which turned out to be my college major and a big interest of his. We never dated though and I’m sure it was because he was a year ahead of me and we played different sports. It wasn't until a few years ago that fate brought us together we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Christmas is a big deal for us. We love decorating and we especially love utilizing our fireplace. Nick usually makes the fires but the Tuesday before Christmas last year he asked me to make a fire. I figured it was because he secretly knows that I make better fires. After stacking the wood and lighting the fire, I stood up and turned around, and there he was, down on one knee, next to our beautiful tree, with our dog by his side, with a beautiful ring, and he asked me to marry him. I was speechless and it emotional. It was a beautiful moment that neither of us will ever forget (including the dog- Leo).
We wanted to enjoy the holidays and ring in the new year without worrying about the pressure of planning a wedding. It was until four months after behind engaged that we started to plan and we knew one thing, we wanted a Christmas wedding. This year would have been too soon. We wanted to cherish this process and enjoy it. We picked a date of December 1st 2018. Our idea of a Christmas theme engagement shoot wouldn’t have been possible without Kathy from Simply K Studios and Sabia Tree Farm.
If our engagement session is any preview into what our wedding is going to be, we are going to be so happy!"
These two are so sweet and we cannot wait to photograph their wedding!! XOXO
There is nothing better than when our clients come back to us after their wedding! It often feels like our clients are good friends after we've gotten to know them through the wedding process. Heather and Ricky had a Boston engagement session and we photographed their wedding in Middletown, CT (which was GORGEOUS). We stay in touch a little via social media, but it was so nice to see them again to photograph a maternity session. Heather and I share a love for Outlander and Harry Potter (really, all reading...), traveling, pets, and I can't wait to follow her and Ricky's parenting journey!
Stephanie and Craig's waterfall engagement session was SO much fun! We climbed down into the area near the falls, which was quite the adventure. Take note - I cannot WAIT to do more sessions like this...
Here is a little more about their story:
On February 14th, 2013 Craig asked me to be his girlfriend after coming home from work that day. He had flowers and chocolates for me and I knew he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. He caters to me each and every day when I don't ask that of him. On the night of Christmas Eve in 2016 we were at his family's house and it was getting late. I was exhausted and had absolutely no idea what was about to happen. He took me into the dining room, got down on one knee and opened up the ring box and asked me to marry him. He picked the ring out all by himself and he did an amazing job! We set the date of August 25, 2018 to become Husband and Wife. This has truly been the journey of a lifetime so far and we have so many more memories to make!
My first wedding in Ellington, CT!!!!! I was so excited to photograph Jessica & Eric's wedding because Ellington is my hometown. This was a beautiful backyard tented wedding at Jessica's parents' home, overlooking the town from the hill. Seriously - the view was a stunner. For those of you familiar with town, we were close to the Ellington Airport and could see much of "downtown".
Jessica's gown had delicate lace and beading, and her reception dress was perfect for both dancing and mingling. It had hints of blush pink, matching her bridal party perfectly. We photographed their outdoor wedding ceremony along benches overlooking the view, where they performed a sand ceremony that included Jessica's daughter. It was such a sweet moment and one of those emotion-filled portions of the day that we love capturing.
Between the bridal party portraits and the tented candlelit reception, there was no shortage of fun moments, but my favorite was probably The Cupcake Bug! Luann's Bakery in Ellington, CT provided the cake and desserts for the wedding, sending the cupcakes in a VW Bug during the reception.
Thank you for choosing us as your wedding photographers! We had fun with you two and your entire day was absolutely wonderful! XOXO, Kathy
