Harkness Memorial State Park | Connecticut Engagement Sessions

I cannot even put into words how much fun we've been having with our engagement sessions lately. Jillian & Jeff's session at Eolia Mansion in Harkness Memorial State Park was no exception, and we're so seriously excited to be their wedding photographers next summer! Here are some highlights from this lighthearted and fun engagement session.

Kayla & Chris | Outdoorsy Engagement Session in Connecticut

Have we mentioned how excited we are for spring?! This super-sweet outdoor engagement session was hiking mixed with playful fun and I'm so excited to be their wedding photographer! Kayla and Chris's wedding is just around the corner, at one of our favorite venues - The Lace Factory, and we can't wait to see which photographs they choose for their custom guest book!

Elegant Engagement Session | Hartford Wedding Photographers

Joe and Jackie met online. Joe asked Jackie out to happy hour at a little restaurant called Salute in downtown Hartford. Happy hour turned into closing down the bars on a Wednesday night, to then finding out that Jackie's car was locked in a parking garage at 2 AM. Joe, being the gentleman that he is, offered to give Jackie a ride home in the opposite direction of where he lived. The next morning, Joe picked Jackie up before work to bring her downtown to get her car. They immediately starting planning their second date, and from there were inseparable. Love at first sight was not something either of them believed in until they met each other. Jackie and Joe both knew they were meant for each other from the very start. Jackie even texted her best friend (and Maid of Honor) the very next day saying "I really think I'm going to end up marrying this guy."

Fast forward to the proposal, Joe and I had a trip planned to Maine last summer to visit his family for the week of July 4th. On our second day there Joe and I walked out to the end of the dock at his parent's lake house and he proposed. I was in so much shock, and when I turned around everyone was standing there watching us and he even flew my parents up there to witness the whole thing. It ended up being much more than just the 4th of July trip I was expecting.

Fall Engagement Session | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

Emily & Patrick's engagement session on the CT shoreline ended up falling on one of the nicest weekends of the month, and we chased some gorgeous light around the park. In the most random coincidence EVER, we found out that our families spend part of summer vacation at the same set of cottages on Sebago Lake in Maine!! I was crazy-excited when we discovered this, because no one has ever heard of where we stay, so it was a HUGE coincidence. Here's a little more of their story...

"Patrick and I met about a year and a half ago and knowing both our love for wine, our first date consisted of just that: a wine tasting. And naturally, we hit it off. With me being fairly new to the area after relocating from North Dakota for a job in western Massachusetts, and with my line of work being hockey at the time, there was some hesitation on whether I'd be on the east coast for long or whether my job would take me elsewhere. Patrick is a teacher and football coach in Springfield and is originally from Connecticut, so he was pretty set. Our affection continued to grow and we knew that even if we both had to move, we'd make it work.

Fast forward through countless wine dates, trips to North Dakota to meet family, east coast adventures and vacations, we found ourselves in Newport in November to celebrate the end of Patrick's football season. We were in the midst of touring the mansions when he took me aside on the back lawn of the Breakers mansion overlooking the ocean, when he got down on one knee, with a stunning ring, and asked me to spend forever with him. He was emotional, I was emotional, it was a total surprise, and it was perfect!

Fall is our favorite time of the year, so we're jumping into planning our midwest October 2018 wedding! Our engagement photo session was absolutely perfect and set the tone perfectly for our rustic barn wedding!"

Vito's On the Farm Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

Wendy & Matt's wedding was our first time photographing at Vito's On The Farm, and I couldn't be happier with our experience there. We worked alongside Ally, who is the wedding coordinator, but also has a special connection to Vito's and the venue itself. Today we're highlighting this venue, and what better way than to hear directly from Ally...

"Our family farm on Rye Street has been operational since 1948. My grandmother Ann Maffucci, moved there in her teens, from Front Street in Hartford, along with her parents, Zena and Florido Iudica. At that time, the farm provided 26 wide acres to explore and raise animals, along with several large barns housing nearly 10,000 chickens. Fast forward to the early 90’s, the farm has been shared with and passed down to the 2nd generation Maffucci family. Current residents of the farm are my Aunt Carol & Uncle Jon Bonds.
We christened the farm with events, with our wedding, back in September 2014, and realized what a perfect venue this location provided. Not only is the landscape beautiful and well-maintained, by the Carol & Jon, and my Grandfather, Vito Maffucci, but the location is central to both interstate highways, and the heart of South Windsor is less than 10 minutes away.

Our family farm provides a different experience than our other restaurants in Hartford and Windsor, because our family roots are there. We have all grown up on the farm, we have helped pick tomatoes on the hot summer day, we have learned how to cut basil so it shoots right back up, and we have learned how to incorporate the Vito’s Restaurant Group brand, at our farm.

This location is a brand new venture, we are the perfect location for wine dinners, farm to table dinners, weddings, and corporate retreats. We are operational May 15th-October 15th, and we incorporate any and all produce grown at our farm to our events. Vito’s puts only the best ingredients on the menu here, and we know brides and grooms that select us for there venue are ‘foodies’ who expect nothing less than exceptional food and a great atmosphere. Our goal is to share our family farm with couples and companies that want to have the best day possible, starting with a romantic ceremony near the gardens, moving to a breezy cocktail reception with tasty appetizers, through dinner service, with custom menus, suited to best match the couples tastes, and finishing the night with a great dance party including everyone on the dance floor and soaking in the best moments of their lives yet.

Our family loves two things most; feeding people excellent food, and treating others like family. The farm best allows us to do that by it’s location and spaciousness, and with of our decades of experience, we know the best way to serve couples and provide for them everything they desire, starting with the initial tour, to picking the menu, and finally when the big day arrives, making sure the atmosphere is fun, and ready to party! We welcome the bride and groom to customize as much or as little of the day as they wish. Our goal is to please you and to also get to know you, and help you make the best memories on the best day of your lives yet. Currently we have 1 spot open for the 2018 season, call for your tour today ☺  860-205-0079"

The Candlewood Inn Wedding | Connecticut WEDDING Photographers

It wasn't quite the official end of summer yet, and Jessie and Alex wanted to make sure their wedding was full of summer.  With the gorgeous florals, beautiful weather, and amazing lake views, they got exactly what they wanted.  Jessie looked amazing in her Allure Bridal gown (Madison James) and Alex loved his Game of Thrones grooms cake by Le Cakery in MD! Yes, the cake traveled all the way from MD!  They danced the night away to Hal Prince, who kept their guests on their feet the whole night.  Congratulations Jessie and Alex on your gorgeous wedding!

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT:

We absolutely loved what Flowers By Danielle, LLC did for all of their arrangements, their color mixes were gorgeous and all of their flowers, from the ceremony site, to the center pieces and the bouquet were just perfect.  I asked about her inspiration was for their wedding!

"I started Flowers by Danielle 17 years ago with our sole focus on the wedding and event portion of the industry.  We are not a retail florist and I always emphasize that to all of our clients.  To us, each wedding is unique and different and the flowers are what truly brings a couple's style and personality come to life.

When I first met with Jessie and her mom, they expressed how much they wanted the flowers to be fun and creative.  Her bright summer colors of coral and punch were perfect for the time of year.  We incorporated Coral Roses, Hot Pink Ranunculus, Antique Hydrangeas, Buttercup Yellow Stock, Moss, Snapdragons and Celosia to compliment the variety.  They could not have asked for a better day for an outdoor ceremony!"

Webb Barn Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

We could photograph one hundred weddings at The Webb Barn and none of them would be the same. Every wedding is so different, with fun details that make the wedding day unique. Lauren & Bob's wedding was just that! When we met in-studio, they described their wedding plans for an afternoon of spending time with their friends and family outdoors playing lawn games. They weren't sure which traditions they were going to have at their wedding, which started with a first look in Hartford.

There was a little bit of rain to start the day, but their first look plans helped so that they weren't rushing around during the reception to get all of their group photos taken. Two reactions...two photographers. We try to position ourselves as best as possible to capture both of you as you first see each other on your wedding day, without ruining the moment. As important as the photographs will become to you after the wedding...first and foremost, we want you to enjoy the day.

The rain started clearing up around the time of their ceremony, making it the perfect afternoon for celebrating with lawn games outdoors and a slice of pie from Granny's Pie Factory.

Lauren & Bob, may your travels never cease and you always find time for the fun in life. Best wishes for a long & happy marriage together. XOXO

Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

JoAnna & Evan met me at Eolia Mansion in Harkness Memorial State Park for their engagement session this past week, and it was absolutely perfect. They showed up with a lot of laughs, and I reassured them that it was exactly what I love to photograph. We're always looking for raw emotion in photos, truly capturing our clients' personalities, which is so important to a wedding photographer.

Seeing those moments later where you laughed from nervousness before you saw each other for the first time, those tears when you're walking down the aisle, or when your parents are wiping away their own tears as you say, "I do" - that's the good stuff. The stuff you'll remember after your wedding is over, and the candids that a really great wedding photographer will capture for you. Long after the cake is gone and the flowers have wilted, when your dress is put away and your invitations have come off of your guests' refrigerators...you'll look back on those photographs, and THOSE memories will make you laugh and cry again, thinking back to one of the best days of your life.

It's so easy for photographers to put our clients into a spot and ask them to pose (and we often do!) But the real part of our job is capturing what it feels like to be together, in that spot, at that moment.

JoAnna & Evan, I cannot wait to photograph your upcoming wedding. My hopes are that it's filled with laughs, love, dancing, dips, and maybe even a few happy tears. I'm so happy for you both!

XOXO

Webb Barn Wedding | Connecticut Wedding Photographers

Libby & Paul said their, "I Do's" on Saturday at the Webb Barn in Wethersfield Connecticut with just the perfect bit of sun peeking out from the clouds. Libby and her bridesmaids got ready in Old Wethersfield at Larissa Lake & Co. and I was so excited to finally see Larissa's new space, as we watched it being built on a daily basis going to/from the studio in Wethersfield. Lots of natural light from the windows, mirrors and little details everywhere. Local brides, take note - this is a beautiful spot for getting ready on your wedding day!

From there, the ladies traveled to the house where Libby grew up, to finish getting ready before the ceremony. Her mom and her bridesmaids helped her get into her gown, shoes, and jewelry. How classic and elegant is the pearl necklace she wore? I found out that day that those pearls belong to her grandmother, which makes the sentiment just as beautiful as the necklace itself.

I've photographed many weddings at the Webb Barn, and each one is special to me because it's where I was married almost 8 years ago (this month!!) I remember stepping out of the barn and seeing all of our guests and just feeling so much love. Pretty easy to imagine this is how Libby was feeling as her father walked her down the aisle. That moment of anticipation before the bride and groom have seen each other, the nervousness and excitement, those happy tears. Libby shed a few happy tears, and it was clear from Paul's face during the ceremony how head-over-heels in love he is with her.

These two were all smiles through the rest of the wedding, and came RUNNING when the guests saw a double rainbow outside on the lawn. Everyone always tells us that it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day, but I think having a rainbow must be exponentially better. Their wedding reception inside the barn was filled with great music and dancing, and we were able to end the evening with a night photo outside - my favorite! One last photo, ending on a perfect note.

ROCKY NECK STATE PARK | CONNECTICUT ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHERS

Should you do an engagement session?  My answer is always...yes!  Engagement sessions are actually a lot of fun.  It's a great way for us to get to know our couples and see first hand how they are in front of the camera. AND, they get to know us, so on the day of the wedding, our couples know that they can trust us and that is  one less thing they have to worry about.  Not to mention, this is such an amazing time in your life.  Why not document it? We can also help you find the perfect spot for you, the spot that best speaks to you as a couple.  Ideas are endless.

Saying I had a blast with Jillian and Michael is an understatement.  After our already awesome meeting in the studio, I was really looking forward to getting to know them better during their session.  And I learned everything I needed to know about them.  They are fun. They are happy. They are head-over-heals in love.

We spent the evening at Rocky Neck State Park, one of my favorite spots in CT to photograph.  To Jillian and Michael, it was the perfect location.  Since they are both from opposite sides of the sound, the ferry trips have been countless and the water is extremely important to them.  Although a bit chilly in the water, it was the perfect spring session.

Jillian & Michael - Thank you such a great session.  I can't wait for the next time.
