Old Wethersfield has always had a special place in my heart. It’s the first place I walked into a space and said “this is it” I was going to start a business there. Many of our clients may remember our studio in the barn with the brick driveway. We were in the loft of the coziest piece of history. And I fell in love with the residents there, they were all so kind and supportive our the new photography studio on Main Street. While I love our new studio in Manchester, I’ll be honest, I miss being able to take a morning walk around town, grabbing lunch at Village Pizza (best calzones there) or having a nice afternoon lunch at Lucky Lou’s. Old Wethersfield is just all around a beautiful New England town with a small town feel and so much history. If you haven’t been there, check it out!
So of course when Bethany and Jake inquired about their Webb Barn wedding and told me they both grew up in town, went to the same high school, but didn’t have their first date at Lucky Lou’s until well after they graduated, I knew they had even more love for their town than I could have. Even better, Bethany’s parents were married at the Webb Barn 40 years ago! How special is that?
Brenda and I started off with getting ready at the all so beautiful, Silas Robbins House. Bethany, joined with her girls, were so relaxed and patiently waited for that moment every bride looks forward to, getting into her dress. Seeing it all come together and taking in every moment. All this just minutes before Bethany and Jake could have their first look at the house. We love when they do it privately. It’s such a special moment that they can take everything in. Breath. Just the two of them (and of course us as far away from them as we can to keep their moment for themselves). What’s nice about doing photos early, we can capture the majority of what you want before the ceremony. That way, you have the rest of the day with your family and friends.
Once we finished the wedding party photos and family photos, it was time for the ceremony. I’m still loving the fact that their Webb Barn wedding that Bethany and her parents were married at at the same place. It was a sweet ceremony where both Bethany’s Mom and Jake’s Father had readings and just about every guest had their phones down and were present in the moment. As soon as they were pronounced, everyone got to enjoy lavender lemonade (so good if you haven’t tried it), bourbon peach ice tea (guests loved it), beautifully passed hors d’oeuvres, and did I mention a bowl of CHEETOS?? With so many kids present at the wedding, that was pretty genius!
For the rest of the night, guests enjoyed playing cornhole, watching speeches and their first dance to “By My Side” by Kate Wright, which is now a song I have added to my playlist for editing.
Bethany and Jake, you two have been a dream to work with and I’m so honored that you chose me to photograph your wedding day. Congratulations you two. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness.
